You can insert horizontal lines (also known as "rules") into a web page to separate sections of the page. The default browser settings for a horizontal line is a centered, black, 1 pixel in height (thickness) line that extends across the entire web page, with 6 points of spacing above and below the line.

You can use the following tools in the Style Editor to create a default line style that overwrites the browser defaults, or create several non-default line styles for different uses. If you set a default horizontal line style, new non-default line styles inherit the attributes of the default style. For example, if the default line style creates a green line that is 4 pixels wide, all non-default line styles inherit these settings. To override the inheritance for a non-default style, enter other values for the inherited attributes.

Background Color Background Color

Select a color for the line, or choose No color to remove the applied color and reset the line color to the default.

Spacing Spacing

Spacing options create space above and below a line.

Width and Height Width and Height

Use the Width value to specify the length of the line and set the units to pixels (default), points, or a percentage. Setting a width in pixels or points sets a fixed width line, which can cause a problem if it is much larger than the user's screen resolution. The browser inserts horizontal scroll bars if you specify a width that is larger than the screen display. Specifying the width as a percentage avoids this problem. A percentage setting is a relative width that automatically resizes the line to fit the percentage of the screen. A percentage of 100 uses the entire horizontal space.

Use the Height value to specify a thickness for the line in pixels (default) or points.
