This graphic shows a flow chart of the typical steps you will have to perform to upgrade your Oracle Database 10g to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4). It is not meant to be a thorough description of each step, but an outline you can follow, as long as you refer to the Oracle Database upgrade documentation for the details.

In summary, the steps involve the following:

If you are starting from Oracle Database Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2), then you must install 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1) and then apply the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) patch set.
If you are starting from Oracle Database 10g (10.1), then you must first apply patch 5126270, then install 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1), and then apply the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) patch set.
If you are running 10g Release 2 (10.2), then you must apply the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) patch set.

After you have installed the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) patch set, you can then run the Database Upgrade Assistant.
