About running IAS components
Remember that IAS runs either as an application hosted by a WebLogic Server, or IAS runs in the Endeca IAS Service hosted by the Jetty Web server. In either server container, you run the IAS components, such as the IAS Server, Component Instance Manager, and Record Store using the IAS command-line utilities. Alternatively, you can run them programmatically using the IAS APIs. For details about the APIs, see the IAS API Guide.

Running IAS components in WebLogic Server
If you are running IAS in WebLogic Server, you use any of the standard ways to start and stop server instances. The method that you choose depends on whether you prefer using the Administration Console or a command-line interface, and on whether you are using Node Manager to manage the server's life cycle.

Running IAS components in Jetty Web Server
As discussed in the introduction, the Endeca IAS Service is a container process that runs inside Jetty Web Server.
