Customer comments

We have created banner that allows for scheduled notifications to be displayed to all users in PeopleSoft. We developed a yellow banner that is displayed below the current header which is persistent for all users, on all pages, for the time that it is scheduled. We also created an administration page that allowed for notifications to be scheduled in advance. A banner had to be created for both Classic and Fluid pages but to the end-user they see no difference.

This has helped us communicate when we are going to have downtime and other alerts. Since not everyone would see an email or a posting on our company intranet, this banner would ensure that anyone in the system would be aware of the notification for the system that they are using. It has allowed us to inform users of unplanned downtime as well.

There are basically 3 areas that we implemented. A banner for Classic pages, a banner for Fluid pages and a set up page for administrator to create and schedule notifications. The banner is displayed below the delivered banner.

The code is essentially bolt-on and there is limited upkeep or impact when there are Tools changes, but because we are injecting code into the branding, we have to evaluate impacts if there are changes in branding.

From a user perspective, the banner displayed for Classic pages is the same as one for the Fluid pages, but there is technical difference in how they work.

The banner will display a message as long as the message begin time is in the past, and the message end time is in the future. The banner is tied to the branding, and will display when the header is refreshed. This occurs on login, or when refreshing the page, or when navigating from one component to another.
