Description.  Activate Chip and Pin Functionality

Property Determination. With Chip and PIN, the credit card or membership card incorporates a microchip that stores information which can be used to verify the validity of the card and authenticate the customer based on a PIN. When the card is inserted into a specially designed reader, the customer is prompted to enter their PIN number for authentication using a PIN keypad.  Authentication and verification may take place online or offline, depending on the characteristics of the transaction. The added level of security provided by the microchip and PIN combination is intended to cut down on fraudulent use and card counterfeiting. Use of Chip and PIN functionality requires that the appropriate reader hardware be available at the OPERA workstation; in addition, in OPERA system configuration, the Workstations screen Chip and PIN check box must be selected. (The reader hardware is attached to the EFT device rather than directly to the workstation as with the standard credit card swipe reader.)

Activation / Inactivation Rules.

An active credit card interface of the EFT or CCW interface type is required in order for this parameter to be visible.
