Understanding NZQA Fees

NZQA is the New Zealand government body responsible for coordinating the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Educational institutions must equate their study offerings to NQF unit standards for the purpose of cross accreditation.

Institutions are responsible for charging students a Hook-on Fee and a Per Credit Charge on behalf of the NZQA to cover administration costs. The Hook-on Fee of 25.00 NZD is charged at the time of enrollment if the student does not have an NZQA ID. If the student already has an NZQA ID, the fee is not charged. After paying the fee, as the student achieves units, these units are listed in their Record of Learning.

When students enroll in classes, they are also enrolled in the associated unit standards. Each unit standard is equivalent to a specific number of credits. As units are reported to the NQF, the NZQA charges a fee of 1.00 NZD per credit.
