Writing and Launching MaxL Scripts

You use MaxL Script editor to automate Oracle Essbase administration tasks within Oracle Hyperion Calculation Manager. You can use the editor to define a database outline and metadata.

MaxL Script Editor features a text editing window that enables you to enter MaxL scripts.

Within MaxL Script Editor, you can perform the following MaxL-related tasks:

• Create and launch MaxL scripts to automate Essbase administration tasks.

• Type and launch MaxL statements interactively to perform one or more Essbase operations at a time.

• View the results of launching a script.

To create a MaxL script:

1. From the System View, click the Database Properties icon.
2. In the Enterprise View, expand the Oracle Hyperion Planning application type and the application for which you want to create a MaxL script.
3. Right-click the application, and select MaxL Script Editor.

   The MaxL Script Editor is displayed.

4. In the MaxL Script Editor, enter the contents of the script.
5. Click the Launch button to launch the script.

   The contents of the script may simply be individual statements that you interactively type, launch, and clear from within the editor. You do not have to save a script in order to launch statements within it.
