Custom attributes are user-defined fields defined centrally by administrators and used in many places, including:

You can specify different value types for custom attributes: Date, Date and Time, List, Number, Text, and True or False. For example, you can define a custom attribute named External Auditing with a value type of True or False. When you assign the External Auditing attribute to an item, you can set it to True for tasks required by external auditors.

If you select the List type, you can define a pick list of values. For example, you can define a List attribute named Sales Region, with North, South, East, and West as values.

You can create, edit, and delete custom attributes.
