Paste Content into a Web Page

After completing this topic, you will be able to paste content from a Microsoft Word document to a web page, either as text only or with Word formatting preserved.

Steps:

  1. We have opened the View Tab.docx file in Microsoft Word and selected all of the text.

Notice the bolding applied to words in the paragraphs, the formatting used for headings, and that the document contains a bulleted list.

    Step 1
  2. Copy the selected text using the toolbar button.

    Click the Copy button.

    Step 2
  3. Switch to the Developer.

    Click the Developer button.

    Step 3
  4. Select the Work with Views section under the Editing Basics module.

Click the Work with Views section.

    Step 4
  5. The Concept pane is blank because the section links to an empty web page with no content.

    Step 5
  6. Edit the web page to open it in the Web Page Editor.

Click the Edit web page button.

    Step 6
  7. Paste the copied text as text only using the Paste as Text button.

Click the Paste as Text button.

    Step 7
  8. The Paste as Text tool removes all formatting from the pasted text.

    Step 8

  9. Undo the paste action.

Click the Undo Paste as Plain Text button.

    Step 9
  10. Now paste the copied text from Word using the Paste from Word button.

Click the Paste from Word button.

    Step 10
  11. While pasting from Word preserves the bolding and bulleted list, it also preserves the heading formats (font family, font size, and font style) as direct formatting. This means that this formatting is not under style control and cannot be easily changed.

    Step 11

  12. Select all of the text on the page using the Edit menu.

    Click the Edit menu.

    Step 12
  13. Click the Select All button.

    Step 13
  14. Clear the formatting from the selected text.

Click the Clear Formatting From Text button.

    Step 14
  15. Although the direct text formatting is removed, the bulleted list is still recognized as a bulleted list element.

While removing all formatting may require you to apply new text and paragraph formatting, you can apply the new formatting using styles that you can easily change and update as needed.

    Step 15
  16. Delete the blank paragraphs between each paragraph.

Click the blank space above Zoom Tools in the web page.

    Step 16
  17. Use the Delete key to delete the blank paragraph.

    Press [Delete].

    Step 17
  18. We have deleted the rest of the blank paragraphs for you.

Note: The blank lines appeared between each paragraph because the original paragraphs were separated with paragraph marks, not paragraph spacing. This is a common problem when copying from Microsoft Word.

    Step 18

  19. Use the Format list to apply a Heading 2 format to the Zoom Tools and View Settings headings.

Click in the Zoom Tools text.

    Step 19
  20. Click the Format button.

    Step 20
  21. Click the Heading 2 list item.

    Step 21
  22. Click in the View Settings text.

    Step 22
  23. Click the Format button.

    Step 23
  24. Click the Heading 2 list item.

    Step 24

After completing this topic, you are able to paste content from a Microsoft Word document to a web page, either as text only or with Word formatting preserved.
