Oracle Virtual Networking Overview

Oracle Virtual Networking host software and the Oracle Fabric Interconnect hardware provide Ethernet and Fibre Channel (FC) emulation over InfiniBand.

The FC ports on the Oracle Fabric Interconnect must connect to the FC fabric through an N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV)-aware FC switch. Direct connection of the Oracle Fabric Interconnect to the Oracle FS System is not supported.

In addition to FC emulation, Oracle FS Path Manager (FSPM) also supports the Ethernet emulation provided by the Oracle Fabric Interconnect. The Oracle Fabric Interconnect virtual Ethernet network interface controllers (NICs) are supported the same as hardware Ethernet NICs.

Refer to the Oracle Virtual Networking (http://www.oracle.com/us/products/networking/virtual-networking/overview/index.html) for general information on Oracle Virtual Networking.

Refer to the Oracle Virtual Networking Documentation (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E38500_01/index.html) for instructions on setting up and configuring the Oracle Fabric Interconnect and associated components which are part of the Oracle Virtual Networking solution. The InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs) and other equipment required for this solution are specified in the documentation.
