Oracle FS Path Manager (FSPM) runs on a SAN host to create FSPM hosts and monitor data paths on the Oracle FS System.
When FSPM logs in to the Pilot, FSPM provides the name of the SAN host and the list of host initiators. If necessary, the Oracle FS System creates any FSPM hosts that are not found on the system and assigns the available initiators to the FSPM host.
FSPM successfully logs in to the Pilot.
The Pilot has registered the host initiators as an FSPM host.
An active TCP connection exists between the Pilot and FSPM daemon.
The name of the FSPM host, which is the SAN host that runs FSPM
The list of initiators, which includes the FC ports in the host system, and, if iSCSI is configured, the names of the iSCSI initiators
FSPM that is running on the SAN host provides information to the Oracle FS System on a continuous basis. For example, FSPM reports for each LUN the number of optimized and non‑optimized paths that are currently usable at the host.
Monitor the multiple data paths to the Oracle FS System Controllers.
Verify the connection status of each initiator on the host.
Balance the load traffic among the multiple paths.
FSPM sends a list of SAN host initiators to the Pilot. If any of the SAN host initiators are not currently associated with the FSPM host entry, then they are added to it. As a result, all the LUN mappings that are associated with the FSPM host entry are applied to the new initiators.
Deleting FSPM host entries releases the initiators that are members of that FSPM host. However, a new FSPM host is created the next time that FSPM logs in to the Pilot.
For more information about FSPM, refer to the Oracle FS Path Manager Installation Guide and to the Oracle FS Path Manager Release Notes for the appropriate SAN host platform.
