The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) works with your hardware to write data to the volumes on the Oracle FS System while backing up those volumes. The Pilot web client provides links for the VSS hardware provider software.
The Oracle FS Volume Shadow Copy Service Provider is a VSS hardware provider that makes volume shadow copies of VSS-enabled applications that use Oracle FS System LUNs without interrupting normal operations.
VSS enables data protection and management services through a standard set of configuration and monitoring capabilities. These capabilities include creating and manipulating backups without shutting down applications or essential services. During a restore operation, VSS shuts down or pauses applications as needed to enable the restore operation.
