iSCSI Settings

If you have any iSCSI hosts that are configured to use Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP), access control, or both, you must also set up system-wide iSCSI settings on the Oracle FS System. Configuring the iSCSI settings defines the authentication methods and the access controls on the Oracle FS System that the SAN hosts must match to gain access to the system.

If you have CHAP and access control configured for each initiator, you do not need to configure iSCSI globally.

The Internet Storage Name Service (iSNS) facilitates the discovery, the management, and the configuration of iSCSI devices on a TCP/IP network. iSNS provides intelligent storage discovery and intelligent management services that are comparable to those services that are found in Fibre Channel networks. iSNS allows a normal IP network to function in a manner that is similar to that of a storage area network.

For the iSNS feature to work properly, configure all iSCSI ports on the Oracle FS System to have access to the same primary iSNS server. This rule is necessary so that all of the iSCSI ports get the same result when querying the iSNS database for the set of initiators that are members of the discovery domain set that is associated with the Oracle FS System.
Important! If an iSCSI port has no access or loses access to the iSNS server, the Oracle FS System reports the iSNS error events but continues to operate normally. For iSNS access control to function correctly, at least one iSCSI port on the Oracle FS System must have access to the iSNS server during a system restart; otherwise, all iSCSI logins are rejected.
