Create LUN: Define Mapping by Selected Host Entries

Mapping your LUN makes the LUN available to the host entry. You can specify that your LUN map to a specific host entry and LUN number.

  1. Navigate to SAN > Storage > LUNs.
  2. Select Actions > Create.
  3. Click the Mapping tab.
  4. Select the Access Protocol that permits access to the LUN.
    Valid options:
    • Fibre Channel (FC)

    • iSCSI

  5. Select the option Only selected hosts (via maps).
Result:The system displays the Hosts mapping table.
  6. From the LUN Controller Assignment controls, allow the Oracle FS System to assign the Controller, by leaving the Assigned Controller option set to the default, which is <auto assign>.
  7. Click Create.
  8. From the Create LUN Map dialog, define the mapping for the LUN, then click OK or click OK and Continue.
    Valid options:
    • LUN Name

    • Host Name

    • LUN Number

Tip: If network clients are running on Windows 2000 or 2003 platforms, and you want those clients to be able to access the LUN, do not select LUN number 255.
Note: Clicking OK and Continue allows you to map more hosts to this LUN. Clicking OK creates the LUN mapping and closes the dialog.
  9. (Optional) From the Ports Masked for this LUN table, select Yes for each Controller port that you want to mask.
When you mask a port, the LUN cannot be accessed from the specified ports.
Note: If you use Oracle FS System LUN masking or switch zoning and do not use LUN assignment, you could create a situation in which a LUN is not exposed on the ports through which you want the clients to be able to access the LUN. To avoid this situation, assign the LUN to the Controller on which you have the mapping set.
  10. Click OK.

If the host entry that you want to allow access to the LUN is not displayed in the list, add the host entry by associating the host initiator to the host entry.

Clicking OK creates the LUN using the default settings on the remaining tabs. You can perform the tasks associated with the other tabs to fine‑tune the remaining LUN properties. The default properties include:
  • The LUN is assigned to the default Volume Group and the default Storage Domain.

  • The LUN is mapped to the same host entry as the most recent LUN mapping.

  • The system does not create repository capacity for Clone LUNs.

  • The system does not create schedules for automatic Clone LUNs.
