Setting Up a Network Connection for Handheld Devices

After installing the Siebel Handheld application on the handheld device, you must set up a network connection for the handheld device so that the device can communicate with the queue manager by way of an IP network through the HTTP protocol.

NOTE:  If you plan to connect the handheld device to the queue manager through a wireless network, such as a wireless LAN 802.11 network or a wireless WAN network (for example, a GPRS or CDMA network), or a VPN, follow the instructions provided by the device manufacturer, the wireless modem manufacturer or the wireless carrier.

Adding a Network to the PDA Connection Settings

This procedure applies when the queue manager is configured on a computer in your company network. If you plan to use Microsoft ActiveSync to connect your device to a laptop and then to the company trusted network, or if you plan to connect the device to the company network directly, then follow these steps.

To add a network to the PDA connection settings

  1. Tap Start, Settings, then tap the Connections tab.
  2. Tap the Connections icon, then tap the Advanced tab.
  3. Tap the Select Networks button.

    The Network Management screen appears.

  4. Select My Work Network from the first drop-down list, and tap OK.
  5. Tap the Network Card button.
  6. Make sure the top item is set to Work.

Adding an Exception to the PDA Connection Settings

If the MQeServerAddr contains points (for example, 10.11.12.13 or sfm.mycomp.com), then you must add exceptions to the PDA connection settings.

To add an exception to the PDA connection settings

  1. Tap Start, Settings, then tap the Connections tab.
  2. Tap the Connections icon, then tap the Advanced tab.
  3. Tap the Exceptions button.
  4. Add the appropriate exception.

For example, enter 10.*/* or *.mycomp.*/*
