20 Airside Store Transactions

Airside duty-free shopping functionality provides a mechanism by which shoppers are charged the correct pricing for items purchased in an airside retail store based on the destination of the flight they are taking. In Xstore Point of Service, the boarding pass information is scanned, or entered manually, to determine if duty and/or tax apply to the transaction based on the flight destination.

Depending on your store configuration, one or more of the following actions may be required when beginning a sale transaction:

Associate Flight Information

Airside stores scan or manually enter boarding pass information into Oracle Retail Xstore Point of Service to determine the tax of the transaction based on flight destination.

If the customer does not have or show a boarding pass, and if Xstore is configured to allow bypass of flight details in the arrivals area, select Skip. If the flight information is not captured, the transaction is not tax-free and the appropriate taxes are applied. The receipt indicates that no flight information was captured.

  1. Scan the boarding pass barcode or enter the flight information and click Process.

The Flight Number can include spaces but not special characters.

    • Seat Number: Seat number for the customer.

    • Destination Airport: Airport to which the customer is flying.

    • Scheduled: Date of the flight.

If the information is valid, a confirmation prompt indicates that the flight information was added to the transaction.

Flight Recap Information

If configured, the flight information is shown in a specific tab panel.

Multiple Flights Boarding Passes

Xstore is able to support boarding passes with more than one flight. With a single scan the system is able to import all the flights present on the boarding pass. The analysis process stops when the first eligible flight is found in the chain of the flights. Here is an example of multiple flights boarding pass.

Make an Airside Sale on Arrivals

In some airports, arriving passengers are allowed to purchase goods at airside stores. In this case, the passengers must pay taxes.

Click Arrivals to perform a sale to an arriving passenger.

Note:

No further information is necessary. The screen displays a notification that the passenger is an arriving passenger.

In some airports, it is permitted to sell goods to staff (for example, crew members or employees). In this case, the customers are not eligible for tax free shopping. To sell to staff:

  1. Click Staff.

  2. Enter information about the staff member:

    • Staff Id: Enter the ID for the staff member.

    • Staff Type: Select the type of staff member.

Airside Returns

Some airport authorities allow the possibility to manage airside returns or exchange transactions but only when providing the original boarding pass, and only if the flight has not yet taken off. So, if the appropriate configuration parameter is activated, if you try to return an item sold in a transaction associated to a boarding pass different than the current one, you get an error message and you are not allowed to proceed.

Non-Matching Boarding Pass

If configured, there is the possibility, for the store manager, to override this control. If a manager override is performed for non-matching flights, the transaction captures the customer's new flight information, and prints it on the return receipt.
