Requirements for the Installation User for the Siebel Web Server Extension

You must install the SWSE as a nonroot user, due to requirements of Oracle Universal Installer software. Patch releases must be installed as the same user who installed the base release. Further, the SWSE must be installed as the same user who installed the Web server. This user must be able to modify files on the Web server. In general, it is recommended that all installations be performed by a nonroot user for simpler administration and maintenance.

Note the following:

  • Consult your vendor documentation about requirements and configuration options for your supported Web server. For example, some supported Web servers (for example, Oracle HTTP Server) must be installed as a nonroot user.
  • In any of the following cases, you must either reinstall the Web server and SWSE as a nonroot user or else perform applicable workarounds to resolve conflicting requirements:
  • For more information about Oracle HTTP Server, see article 475370.1 (Article ID) on My Oracle Support. This document was previously published as Siebel Alert 1317.
