Fill In questions require a user to read a question and type an answer.  Fill-in questions test a user’s recall rather than just recognition as in a multiple choice question. However, because fill-in questions require an exact text match, you should reserve this question type for specific response text. Fill-in questions may penalize a user for providing an acceptable alternative response or a spelling error. Be sure to phrase the question so that there is only one clear answer. In addition, it is best to restrict this question type to a single word, unless the phrase has no ambiguity.

To create the answer for a Fill In question, it is necessary to enter the word or phrase in the Response area that constitutes a correct response. Fill In answers are not case-sensitive; however, a user must match the text in the Response field exactly. For example, if a user enters Window and the correct answer is window, the answer is correct. However, if a user answers Windows, the answer is incorrect.
