Use the Element Path


After completing this topic, you will be able to use the Element Path to trace the source of the formatting affecting the elements in a web page.


Steps:

  1. You can use the Element Path to trace formatting sources. Look at the settings in the blue Element Path at the bottom of the Web Page Editor.

     

    We will use the Element Path to trace the formatting of a selection, starting from left to right.

    Step 1

  2. Click in the text whose elements you want to trace.

     

    Click in the shorter text formatted with a text style.

  3. Pointing to an element in the Element Path displays a tooltip.

     

    Point to the Paragraph link.

  4. The tooltip shows the html element type <p> and both the default and non-default paragraph styles that are affecting the text.

  5. Point to the Text link.

  6. The tooltip indicates that the style formatting is applied as a span and the name of the text style.

     

    Note: Text styles are applied as spans.

  7. Click the Text element.

  8. Clicking an element name selects the element.

  10. Notice that the settings in the Style Inspector change to reflect the current selection.
