After completing this topic, you will be able to modify the header and footer in a document template.
Steps:
You can modify the header and footer for the template by adding text, pictures, Microsoft Word fields, and Developer fields.
In this example, we will change the logo and static text in the header and add a field for the document name and path to the footer.
Step 1Edit the header.
Click the Insert tab.
Step 2View the Header gallery.
In the Header & Footer group, click Header.
Step 3Edit the existing header.
In the Header gallery, click Edit Header.
Step 4We have decided to replace the logo with a graphic that contains the logo text only.
Step 5Click the existing logo in the Odd Page Header.
Step 6Insert a new picture.
In the Insert group, click Picture.
Step 7Navigate to the folder containing the picture you want to insert. To save time we have navigated to the folder containing the graphic file for the header.
Step 8Select the graphic file.
Click the WSG_printlogo.tif list item.
Step 9Click the Insert button.
Step 10The new graphic appears in the Odd Page Header of the template.
Step 11You can add or delete the static text or bookmarks in the header and footer and change the format. Change the document name to System Process Review.
Double-click the text Document.
Step 12Enter the desired information into the header. Enter "Review".
Step 13Click the Header & Footer Tools tab.
Step 14Add the filename and path to the footer. View the Odd Page Footer for the template.
In the Navigation group, click Go to Footer.
Step 15Position the insertion point where you want to add a field to the Odd Page Footer.
Click in the second line in the footer table, below Last changed on.
Step 16In the Insert group, click Quick Parts to activate the menu.
Step 17Display the fields.
Click Field.
Step 18The Field dialog box shows the fields you can insert.
Step 19We have scrolled the list to the FileName field.
Click the FileName list item.
Step 20Add the path to the filename field.
Click the Add path to filename option.
Step 21Add the filename field to the footer.
Click the OK button.
Step 22You can select the new field and change the font to match the rest of the footer text.
Step 23The new field now matches the rest of the footer.
Step 24If the template layout for headers and footers includes different odd and even pages, you should repeat the process for the Even Page header and footer.
In the Navigation group, click Next Section to display the Even Page Footer.
Step 25We have added the Filename and path field to the Even footer and formatted the field text.
Step 26We have inserted the new logo and changed the header text to System Process Review for the Even Page Header.
Step 27Close the Header and Footer Tools tab.
Click Close Header and Footer.
