In UIM, you can add workflow templates to engineering work orders and business interactions. Workflow templates define an ordered sequence of activities that must be completed. For example, a workflow template could define the activities required for an access site rollout.
In Design Studio, you design workflow templates by creating Engineering Work Order specifications that include Process specifications. Process specifications include Task specifications and Checklist specifications.
Note:
The engineering work orders you create in Design Studio are not the same as engineering work orders in UIM. Engineering work orders in Design Studio are used as containers for Process, Task, and Checklist specifications. Engineering work orders and the specifications they contain become workflow templates in UIM.When designing workflows, see the following topics:
You associate a Process specification with an Engineering Work Order specification to define the process flow for work orders based on that specification. (In UIM, process flows are called workflows.) You can associate an existing Process specification or create a new one. An Engineering Work Order specification is empty until you associate a Process specification with it.
To associate a Process specification:
In an Engineering Work Order editor, click the Properties tab.
Do one of the following:
To select an existing Process specification:
Click the Select button.
The Select Process dialog box appears.
Select a Process specification, and then click OK.
To create a new Process specification:
Click the Process link.
The Process Wizard dialog box appears.
Enter a name, and then click Finish.
The dialog box closes and the Process specification name is displayed in the Process field on the Properties tab. You can click the Process link to open the editor for the Process specification.
Use the Engineering Work Order editor to define work orders that organize workflows and activities in UIM.
When working with the Engineering Work Order editor, see the following topics:
Use the Order Data tab to view the contents of the Engineering Work Order specification. All information in this tab is read-only.
