Software Update Options

You can choose to ignore certain system conditions in order to perform an update.

You might choose to ignore certain system conditions in the following circumstances:

Whether you are performing a standard software update or a disruptive software update, you can choose to ignore system conditions, to force a controller shutdown, and to override a previously failed software update. Select any of the following overrides:

Ignore compatibility
Ignoring the compatibility matrix validation should be performed only if all other attempts to correct system configuration have failed and you have been instructed by the release notes, a My Oracle Support Knowledge article, or Oracle Customer Support to ignore the validation.
Shutdown the Controller
Disrupts data access and forces a system restart. The Controllers shut down and then restart with the new software installed. Only use this option if you have been instructed to do so by the release notes, a My Oracle Support Knowledge article, or Oracle Customer Support.
Ignore hardware status (except Pilots)
Used to upgrade a system with a minor issue, such as a single failed drive. If the issue is in a Controller, do not use the option unless instructed to do so by Oracle Customer Support or the release notes.
Ignore system alerts
An upgrade of any type will be blocked if there are any system alerts unless this option is selected. System alerts for issues that do not affect the operation of the system do not affect the ability to perform a standard update, for example, a failed email, a failed Call‑Home, a failed FTP server, or task failure due to an invalid requested configuration change.
For system alerts indicating topology issues or hardware conditions, contact Oracle Customer Support or resolve the condition before attempting a standard update.
Important! Always check the details of all the system alerts before using this option.
Ignore current requests
Used to cancel Pilot software tasks in progress, such as log collection or Call‑Home. For any task that is modifying storage, host access, or system software, do not use this option without advice from Oracle Customer Support. The system waits for up to 10 minutes for running tasks to complete. If non-upgrade tasks do not complete within 10 minutes, the upgrade fails with a Failed To Drain Operation Pool error unless this option is selected.
Override previously failed software updates
Used to retry a software update after the issue involved in the prior failed attempt is corrected. Using this option does not cause a disruptive update. Do not use this option more than once for any software update without advice from Oracle Customer Support.
