After a successful installation of the hardware and software, a data backup on the operating system or operator level is possible. A restoration is only possible on the operating system level.

It is possible to backup single files or directories or whole directory trees but, however, a complete backup of the operating system including all user configurations is impossible.

If a complete new installation is necessary after a hard drive defect, for example, the operating system including all MICROS Retail OSCAR POS drivers and application programs has to be installed again. Then you can restore the backed-up user data.

  Is delivered with the controller

The hardware is installed in a switched-off PC; the SCSI controller is configured according to the system conditions. The extern terminator must be connected to the free end of the SCSI data cable. If two or more SCSI devices are present the termination can take place in one of these devices. Please adhere to the general rules for the connection of SCSI devices.

The parameter settings can differ from the values suggested here, depending on the system. Please make sure that other system components do not use the same resources.

The DAT streamer can be installed with the default values:

• 8 x bit Switch:
  PC configuration (see manufacturer’s notes)
  (Switch: 1 - 2 = ON, 3 = OFF, 4 - 8 = ON)
• Jumper block:
  SCSI ID = 3 (see manual provided by the manufacturer)
  (Bit 2 = open, Bit 1 = closed, Bit 0 = closed)

After the physical installation of the SCSI controller and the DAT streamer, the functions of the SCSI components have to be checked with the SCSI utility of the controller. Discernible errors are to be eliminated, otherwise the correct functionality in UNIX is not guaranteed.

After booting the UNIX system in the Maintenance mode, you will have to install the software driver for the DAT Streamer.

Afterwards, link the kernel again and reboot the PC– as usual.

A check of the streamer function can be carried out on the operating system level in the backup menu.

Log on as "root".

If you are located on the graphic user interface select the Backup Manager with a mouse click. You can also access the backup menu by entering "scoadmin b" in standard mode.

In the sub-menu Options --> Default Configuration --> Data Values, enter the values for the
