The following description will inform you about how to load the software in the MDR. First you will learn what is to be considered before loading the Software. Afterwards, the precise Loading Procedure will be described.
Create a subdirectory in the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS directory in which you store the MDR software and the text files for the program. The directory path could be e.g. c:\usr\oscar\MDR (in Windows NT). If you received the program version of the MDR software, copy it from the disk to the created subdirectory.
If you have already installed a version of the MDR software, you should rename the old version before installing the new one in order to be able to reactivate it, if applicable.
Copy the programs SENDHEX.EXE and ADSMDR.HEX in the same directory as the MDR software.
Before you load the MDR software in a device that is already in use, you have to make sure that there is no more data in this MDR. By loading the new software, all data will be deleted in the MDR.
Switch off the MDR via the Power key <PWR> if the display is switched on.
Switch the MDR over to the Command Mode as follows:
The display of the MDR shows the message:
COMMAND MODE
Select function
Self Test
If this message does not appear, please repeat the procedure.
Load the program. Press one of the arrow keys (up/down) until
Programm loader
is shown under the line "Select function".
Confirm the display by pressing Return. The following warning will appear:

CONTINUE? <ENT>
If you confirm the message with the Return key, the memory of the MDR will be cleared. This takes a short moment. The procedure is complete as soon as the display shows the following message:

Via the arrow keys (up/down), you select the transfer rate 38400 Baud and confirm your selection with Return.
The following parameters are to be confirmed with Return until the following message appears on the display:

The MDR is now ready to receive data from your computer. On the computer, the directory in which the program version is located is to be selected (e.g. via the prompt). Enter the following command in the command line:
sendhex.exe adsMDR.hex 38400 com2
The interface is only to be entered if it is not COM1 (Default). Confirm your entry with Return. The system reports its readiness to transfer by the following message:
Press <ENTER> when remote is ready. ESC to abort
Start the transfer by pressing Return on the MDR and then on the computer keyboard.
The transfer will then be started. The amount of transferred data will be displayed on the computer and on the MDR.
The transfer is complete as soon as the computer displays the message Bytes Send = nnnnn, 100% and the MDR displays "Status 0000".
If the value of the status is "0000", press Return on the MDR and take it from the cradle.
The Status is not 0000
If the MDR displays another status value, look up the meaning of the error message in the manual.
Remove the possible error source, e.g. wrong interface, and repeat the procedure.
Press Enter and the program return to:

After taking the MDR from the cradle, switch it off via the <PWR> key. In order to start it again, keep the following keys pressed:
<SPACE>, <FUNC> and
Press the PWR key briefly and release it again. Only then release the other keys.
After a moment, the main menu will be displayed.
Via the short cut FUNC + 8, you can determine which program has been loaded in the MDR now (last line on the display). Delete this message by pressing Enter.

Start the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application on your computer in order to continue working with the MDR.
