MICROS Retail OSCAR POS with SQL Database

By default, the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application is delivered with an ISAM database. In variation from the standard database, the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application can also be operated with ORACLE 8.0 and MS SQL Server 7.0.

The following settings are necessary to operate the POS clients with an SQL database:

  1. In file "oscar.ini"
    MICROS Retail OSCAR POS_SQL_ONTILL=y

The name of the client database matches the name of the SQL database with the number of the processing unit as entered in file oscar.ini. If, for example, the name of the SQL database is "oscar_db" then the SQL client database for processing unit 5 will be given the name "oscar_db5".

Example:
MICROS Retail OSCAR POS_SQL_PASSWD=

MICROS Retail OSCAR POS_SQL_USER=

MICROS Retail OSCAR POS_SQL=oscar_db
MICROS Retail OSCAR POS_SQL_ONTILL=y

The empty SQL client databases should also be created manually as for the empty server database before they can be used. The user and the password must be identical with the user of the server database. The tables of the SQL database are loaded after the first start up operation of the POS clients.

Please note that an ODBC connection must be generated for each SQL client database.

Example

Note:
It is possible to export an existing MICROS Retail OSCAR POS ISAM file to an installed SQL database and to import an MICROS Retail OSCAR POS SQL database in an ISAM file. By use of the parameter MICROS Retail OSCAR POS_SQL="Name of ODBC database source " in the file "oscar.ini", you define that the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application is to work with an SQL database.

The command for the export of the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS ISAM database in an MICROS Retail OSCAR POS SQL database is:

The command for the import of the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS SQL database in an MICROS Retail OSCAR POS ISAM database is:

These commands have to be executed from the directory work.

The operation of the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application with an MS SQL Server 7.0 database requires the following:

Example:

SQL-DB Configuration

DSN (=Data-Source Name) Configuration

Note:
By running a  64 bit system, the ODBC application "%WINDIR%\SysWow64\odbcad32.exe" must be used.
The option "Regional settings" for the currency output must not be used (otherwise e.g. item numbers greater than 999 will not be displayed correctly).
