The Rename/Edit Objects dialog box allows you to rename objects, such as metrics and attributes, on a report. This can make it easier for you and other users to identify the object and its role on the report. For example, you can rename the Employees attribute to Associates so that all employees are listed in a column named Associates.
A metric name can also be changed dynamically, depending on the prompt answer. For example, a report contains the Region attribute and the Net Sales metric. The report is filtered by a prompt on the Year attribute. The metric name can include the years selected in the prompt, such as "Net Sales for 2012" or "Net Sales for 2013". This can be done with stand-alone prompts only, not prompts embedded in the report.
Note: If DHTML is disabled: From the Data drop-down list, select Rename/Edit Objects, then click the Go icon. From the drop-down list, select the object to rename and click the Go icon again.
To access the Rename/Edit Objects dialog box:
Click the name of the report to execute it.
On the grid, right-click the object to rename and select Rename/Edit. The Rename/Edit Objects dialog box opens.
To rename a metric with a prompt answer:
Click the name of the report to execute it.
On the grid, right-click the metric to rename and select Rename/Edit. The Rename/Edit Objects dialog box opens.
Select the Replace dynamic text check box.
In the Name field, type the text for the alias, including ?[Name of Prompt] where you want the prompt information to be displayed. For example, if you included the date filter from the Trans Date prompt in the name of the metric, Net Sales for, the dynamic text entered in the Name field would be: Net Sales for ?[folder path and file name of Trans Date prompt].
