About This Product

Oracle Tuxedo Application Re-hosting Test Manager (ART TM) helps to automate and speed up testing in mainframe re-hosting projects. Complementing Tuxedo ART Workbench, which provides tools for automating and speeding up the migration process, the Test Manager focuses on the remaining part of the re-hosting project – testing the migrated applications. It’s designed to enable customers to complete the application functional or regression testing faster and more efficiently, thus reducing overall project cost and speeding up time to value – when the target environment can be switched into production and expected savings from elimination or reduction of mainframe MIPS begin to accrue along with other benefits.

Identifying the scope of testing and defining a test plan, determining how to test the application and executing test scenarios can present a challenge when re-hosting older applications. To help customers address these challenges, ART TM can capture a lot of the information automatically – partly from the ART Workbench-generated application configuration and partly from capturing baseline test sequences and results from the mainframe execution. The application execution on the mainframe, in test or production environment, becomes the “source of truth” for expected behaviors and results in the re-hosted application.

A key benefit from ART TM’s capture of online and Batch mainframe test scenarios is ability to replay them on the target Tuxedo/ART environment, and then use captured mainframe results to compare with those generated on the target. Such automated comparison can help to move the test effort from a manual, human-intensive task to an automated, industrialized process, which speeds up the evaluation of the test results and identification of potential issues.

The test plans and automated test cases can also become a part of the ongoing regression test capability as migrated applications continue to change through ongoing maintenance and business evolution.

Key Features and Components

Oracle Tuxedo ART Test Manager provides a Web-based application and related tools that allow users to create and manager test projects, link them with the test environments on a local or remote systems where Tuxedo and Application Runtimes for CICS, IMS, and Batch are installed, capture the baseline results from mainframe interaction, define test plans and replay the test scenarios, compare test results, and track the status of the testing effort. Specific application components and features include:

•	Web UI Console and Test Management Framework

•	Authentication and user management

•	Provisioning of test environments, including applying Oracle patches

•	Setting up test projects and discovering testable execution units

•	Generating, managing, tracking, and reporting on test cases and plans

•	Test unit capture & test plan generation

•	From CICS transactions configuration

•	From IMS TRANSACT and PGM macros

•	From Batch jobs and scheduler job submissions

•	Audit trail capture of user operations, including setting up and running test cases

•	Baseline and results capture, preparation, test execution, and results compare

•	Remote execution on multiple test machines with system monitoring

•	Pre-/post-execution framework for launching custom scripts to set up the environment, pre-load data, cleanup, etc.

•	For CICS applications:

•	3270 data stream recorder and screen capture for CICS transactions

•	3270 data stream and screen replayer and comparison with field masking

•	DPL program execution using Tuxedo ud32 scripts

•	For IMS TM or DC applications:

•	3270 data stream recorder and screen capture for IMS transactions

•	For Batch jobs:

•	Batch job sequencing recorder

•	Batch submit harness for target environment and mainframe with results capture

Interoperability

Oracle Tuxedo ART Test Manager 12c Release 2 (12.2.2) expects the test environment to be set up in a certain way as produced by Pack & Deploy wizard of the Oracle Tuxedo Application Rehosting Workbench 12c Release 2 (12.2.2) RP014.

For test execution, the Test Manager 12.2.2 is compatible with Oracle Tuxedo 12c Release 2 (12.2.2) and the following Application Runtime options:

•	Oracle Tuxedo Application Runtime for Batch 12c Release 2 (12.2.2) RP010

•	Oracle Tuxedo Application Runtime for CICS 12c Release 2 (12.2.2) RP005

•	Oracle Tuxedo Application Runtime for IMS 12c Release 2 (12.2.2) RP003

For DB change comparison, the Test Manager 12.2.2 is compatible with the following databases:

•	IBM DB2 for z/OS v10.1 and later

•	Oracle Database 12c (any release) and later

•	IBM DB2 v10.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows and later

Platform Support

Oracle Tuxedo ART Test Manager 12c Release 2 (12.2.2) supported platforms are listed in the Supported Platforms of the Oracle Tuxedo ART Test Manager Installation Guide.

Limitations and Known Issues

The following sections describe Oracle Tuxedo ART Test Manager limitations and known issues.

Limitations

•

Browser

•	Compatibility mode in IE is not supported.

•	Resizing console window is not supported in IE.

•	Launching 3270 client for CICS 3270 and IMS MPP cases is only supported in IE with ActiveX enabled.

•	Test case in Batch Runtime

•	File compare works only for File2File migration scenario, not File2DB.

•	File compare for VSAM files supports only KSDS, VSAM ESDS and RRDS are not supported.

•	DB compare supports only INSERT, DELETE, and UPDATE. Any other operations are not supported.

•	Creating plans with the capture file that contains duplicated cases is not supported .

Known Issues

•	Multiple jobs operating the same table in DB at the same time will cause the DB compare to fail.

•	When creating a group, IPCKEY for the new domain is randomly generated. You need to modify IPCKEY manually if it is occupied.
