About Siebel Composer

Oracle is gradually migrating from Siebel Tools to Siebel Composer to simplify and expedite the process of configuring Siebel Business Applications. In Siebel Composer, you currently have access to some of the functionality in Siebel Tools, so you can use Siebel Composer to perform some of the tasks that in the past you performed in Siebel Tools. Developers can review this guide to understand currently available functionality in this developing product.

Siebel Composer is a Web-enabled application that runs on a server, and you access it in a browser by using a Siebel Open UI client. Siebel Tools is a stand-alone application that runs on Microsoft Windows.

In Siebel Composer, you can add fields to business components or applets, and you can designate objects as inactive or active. For more information about how you can use Siebel Composer, see Use Cases for Siebel Composer.

Continue to use Siebel Tools to configure your Siebel application in your production environment.

Using Siebel Composer, note that:

  • Do not implement Siebel Composer in a production environment because this preliminary release of the software is not ready for implementation. Experiment with Siebel Composer in an isolated development environment that will never go to actual production. Do not implement Siebel Composer in the Siebel Enterprise (logical grouping of server components, with one enterprise database and one Siebel Gateway Name Server) for a production environment.
  • Ensure that the EAI (Enterprise Application Integration), REST (Representational State Transfer) Proxy Object Manager, and Workspace features are enabled on the environment before you work on Siebel Composer.

For more information about how to setup Siebel Composer Application Edit to work with Siebel REST, see Setting up Composer Application Edit. For more information about how to use the Workspace feature in Siebel Tools, see the Using Siebel Tools guide.

  • Contact business components are the base business components and you cannot deactivate these base components in Siebel Composer. If the Contact business components are inactivated, you won't be able to open Siebel Composer; in this case, you must restore the database to a previous working version before you can open Siebel Composer.
  • Siebel Composer does not support the client-base code; therefore, Siebel Composer does work with the server and does not work with the sample database.
  • Siebel Composer has the same client requirements as other Siebel Open UI clients. For more information, see Deploying Siebel Open UI.

NOTE:  The Siebel Bookshelf is available on Oracle Technology Network (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/documentation/siebel-087898.html) and Oracle Software Delivery Cloud. It might also be installed locally on your intranet or on a network location.
