When a service pack is installed to a multi-user server installation, Library updates need to be run from the Developer as a result. The Developer automatically detects when there are Library updates that need to be applied when any user starts the Developer.

The Library Updates dialog box lists the service packs that are installed on the server. You can selectively choose the service pack updates that you want to process, although it is highly recommended that you update the Library with each service pack listed. However, if you are using multiple Libraries, it may make sense for you to selectively choose the service pack updates for each Library (depending on the contents of the service pack). This process updates various documents in the System folder but does not impact your content.

Service pack document updates are automatically checked in to the Library. Therefore, only one user in a multi-user environment would need to run the Library Update process.

As a result of running this Library update process, a System/Service Packs/ folder is created that contains an empty package document for each service pack. You should not edit or remove these package documents or folders as they are a record of each service pack update that was applied to the server. The About the Developer (Help, About) dialog box also lists the service packs that have been applied to the server to which you are connected.

Note: Library updates can also be applied manually using the Library Updates command on the Tools menu in the Developer.

Custom Document Publishing Style Upgrades

If updates to the standard document publishing styles are included in a service pack, you can have the Developer upgrade your custom document styles with the updates from the standard document publishing styles delivered with the service pack. See Upgrade Custom Document Publishing Styles in the Manage the Library chapter for more information.

Important Note: A user must have Modify permission on the System folder to perform Library updates or Custom Document Publishing Style upgrades.

ProcedureTo update the Library with a service pack:

  1. With a service pack installed on the server, have at least one user start the Developer to open the Library that you want to update. The Library Updates dialog box automatically appears listing the available service pack updates.
