Record It! is a standalone application designed to provide anyone with the ability to create recorded content that can be imported into the Developer. Record It! allows you to easily record the necessary steps to complete any software transaction complete with sound and any additional notes or instructions that you want to provide to the author who will receive your content.

Note: The Record It! application is automatically installed with a client installation of the Developer.

Content authors can make this application available to subject matter experts who can record topics that can then be imported into the Developer for refinement and publishing. Topics created in Record It! are saved as .topic files to any file system location. The subject matter expert can either send the topics to a content author or save them to a location shared with the content author.

Content authors can import Record It! .topic files from the Library or the Outline Editor views. Record It! files imported from the Library view are stored as topic documents in either the current or selected folder in the Library. Record It! files imported from the Outline Editor view are automatically linked to the selected parent document (module/section) in the outline and saved to the Library at the same time. You can import multiple Record It! files at one time.

Record It! files imported from the Library inherit the current content default properties. Record It! files imported from the Outline Editor inherit the content default properties of the parent document in the outline to which the topic links.

To import a new Record It! topic in the Library:

1. Select a folder.
    
2. Select the Tools menu, point to Import and choose  Topic from Record It!
    
3. Browse to the location where the Record It! files are stored (.topic).
    
4. Select one or more files to import and click Open.
    
5. Click Import.

To import and link a new Record It! topic in the Outline Editor:

1. Display the Outline Editor by opening the module or section to which you want to link a new Record It! topic.
    
2. Select the parent document to which you want link the new topic.
    
3. Select the Tools menu, point to Import and choose  Topic from Record It!
    
4. Browse to the location where the Record It! files are stored (.topic).
    
5. Select one or more files to import and click Open.
    
6. Click Import.
   
   Each imported topic is linked and appears beneath the parent document.

Note: When importing a Record It! topic from the Library or Outline Editor, you can use the Import Content To field to change the Library folder in which the topic is saved.
