Assign/Remove Folder Permissions for an Author


After completing this topic, you will be able to assign and remove folder permissions for an author.


Steps:

  1. Note: You must be logged on as an Administrator to use this feature.

    Step 1
  2. View the permissions assigned to the author ADecarlo.

     

    Click the Administration menu.

  3. Click the Manage Authors command.

  4. Click the ADecarlo list item.

  5. Edit the author.

     

    Click the Edit selected author button.

  6. View the groups to which the author is assigned.

     

    Click the Groups tab.

  7. Notice that ADecarlo is assigned to the Everyone and HR Team groups. The HR Team group is assigned Read permission for the System folder.

  8. View the permissions specifically assigned to this author.

     

    Click the Permissions tab.

  9. The Permissions tab shows permissions specifically assigned to an author that are not inherited from group membership. This author has no specific permissions assigned.

     

    ADecarlo has Read permission for the System folder, but it does not appear because it is inherited from group membership in the HR Team.

     

    Authors who are members of the HR Team group cannot modify publishing styles since they have Read permission for the System folder, which includes the Styles folder. However, you want to allow this author to modify publishing styles.

  10. Give ADecarlo permission to modify the documents in the /System/Publishing/Styles folder.

     

    Click the Add button.

  11. Double-click the System folder to expand it.

  12. Double-click the Publishing folder to expand it.

    Click the Styles folder.

  15. Since ADecarlo is assigned to the HR Team group, the Styles folder automatically defaults to Read permission. Change the permission to Modify.

     

    Click the Permission list button.

  17. Click the OK button to close the Edit Author dialog box.

  18. Click the Close button to close the Author Management dialog box.

  19. We will switch to the ADecarlo profile.

  20. Members of the HR Team have only Read permission for the System folder, which includes the Styles folder.

     

    ADecarlo has Read permission to the System folders.

  21. ADecarlo was given Modify permission for the Styles folder. View the permissions for one of the folders under the Styles folder.

     

    Click the User Productivity Kit folder to view the publishing styles.

  22. ADecarlo has Modify permission for the contents of this folder and can modify publishing styles in this folder, and any folder under the Styles folder.
