The bullet images and numbering types used for list levels are a result of the built-in web page formatting or a default style, if the web page is linked to a style sheet. You can use the list properties to change the existing bullet image or numbering style for a list level. In a multilevel list created by demoting/promoting list levels, changing the bullet or number type for one list item, changes the type for all items of the same level nested under the same parent.

Change Bullet Types

The Web Page Editor has a number of standard bullets that can be selected using the Bulleted List Properties dialog box. Standard bullets include:

Note: If you do not want to use the standard bullets, you can use a style sheet to create styles that apply custom bullets. See Format List Styles in the Create Styles to Format Content chapter for more information about using custom bullets. The Standard style sheet includes several bullet styles that use custom bullets.

Change Number Types
You can change the numbering format for items in a numbered list by selecting another numbering type from the Numbered List Properties dialog box. Numbering types include:

Note: If you frequently use numbered lists, it is more convenient to use styles for formatting the list. You can create a new style or modify the multilevel style in the Standard style sheet to format the list for your content. See Format List Styles in the Create Styles to Format Content chapter of the Content Development guide for more information about creating numbered styles.

ProcedureTo change to a different list type:

  1. Right-click in a list item in a bulleted or numbered list and select Bulleted List Properties Bulleted List Properties or Numbered List Properties Numbered List Properties on the context menu.

  2. Select a bullet or number type from the Type list and click OK.

Select <not set> to reset the list type to the default setting for the list level.

Note: In a single level list, the change affects all list items. In a multilevel list, the change affects only items of the same level nested under the same parent item.
