Format Paragraph Styles

After completing this topic, you will be able to format paragraph styles in the style sheet.

Steps:

1. The Document style is formatted for an Arial,  Helvetica, sans-serif 11 point font.

    

   We have added a paragraph style to the MyStyles style sheet. Since this is the first style for the paragraph element, it is added as a default style.

    

   The formatting that you apply to a default paragraph style affects all new and existing paragraphs of text in a web page.

   Step 1

2. Add 6 points of before and after spacing to the style.

    

   Click the Spacing button.

   Step 2

3. Enter the desired information into the Before field. Enter

    a valid value
    e.g.
    "6"
   .
   Step 3

4. Click in the After field.

   Step 4

5. Enter the desired information into the After field. Enter

    a valid value
    e.g.
    "6"
   .
   Step 5

6. Click the OK button.

   Step 6

7. Create another Paragraph style and name it Notes.

    

   Click the Add Style button.

   Step 7

8. Click the Paragraph list item.

   Step 8

9. Enter the desired information into the Style name field. Enter

    a valid value
    e.g.
    "Notes"
   .
   Step 9

10. Press [Enter].

    Step 10

11. If you have set a default style for an paragraph element, additional paragraph styles are added as non-default styles.

     

    All new non-default paragraph styles inherit the settings of the default paragraph style.

12. Apply italics to the style.

     

    Click the Italic button.

13. Add a left and right indent of 30 points.

     

    Click the Spacing button.

    Step 13

14. Click in the Indentation Left field.

    Step 14

15. Enter the desired information into the Indentation Left field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "30"
    .

16. Click in the Indentation Right field.

    Step 16

17. Enter the desired information into the Indentation Right field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "30"

18. Click the OK button.

19. Add a 1 pixel gray border.

     

    Click the Border button.

20. Enter the desired information into the Width field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "1"

21. Click the Color button.

    Step 21

22. Select a gray web color.

     

    Click the Gray color.

    Step 22

23. Click the Ok button.

24. Click the OK button.

25. The paragraph text is very close to the border. Add padding to increase the space between the text and the border lines.

26. Click the Padding button.

27. Add 3 points of padding to all sides. Enable the Use same for all option.

     

    Click the Use same for all option.

28. With the Use same for all option, you only have to enter the value in the first field.

     

    Click in the Top field.

29. Enter the desired information into the Top field. Enter

     a valid value
     e.g.
     "3"

30. Notice that the 3 Points value is applied to all of the options.

31. Click the OK button.

32. Apply a light background color to the paragraph.

     

    Click the Background Color button.

33. Apply a light yellow color.

     

    Click the Light Yellow color.

34. Click the Ok button.

35. Save the changes to the style sheet.

     

    Click the Save button.

36. We have opened the Page Setup web page. The MyStyles style sheet is assigned to the web page.

37. Apply the Notes style a paragraph.

     

    Click in the second paragraph under the Margins heading.

38. Apply the Note style.

     

    Click the Styles button.

39. Click the Notes - Paragraph list item.

40. The paragraph uses the formatting in the Notes style.
