Configure Gantt Bars on the Activities Page

To visually distinguish the different activity-specific bars displayed in the Gantt chart, you can configure bar settings for the Gantt chart view on a page. Gantt bars reflect specific activity Start dates, Finish dates, and durations based on the bar’s type. Some bars, such as the Current bar on the Activities page, have additional configuration options.

To configure Gantt chart bars:

  1. Navigate to the Activities page
  2. Select Activities Grid Settings.
  3. In the Manage Views panel, select the Bars tab.
  4. To add a new bar, and configure bar settings, do the following:
    1. Select Configure, select Add , and then select Bar.
    2. In the Bar Type list, select one of the available bar types.
    3. In the Height list, specify a bar height.
    4. In the Bar Color picker, select a color for the bar. Optionally you can select a theme from the Theme list to apply a pre-configured color theme for all bars in the Gantt chart.
    5. Select Color by Activity Code if you want to color your activities according to their assigned code values, and then select a workspace-level or project-level activity code. The code's values and their associated colors are shown below the list. Select Configure to configure the code value colors in the corresponding Codes dictionary.
    6. Click and drag one or more bars to change the order in which they appear.
  5. To configure the Current bar for the Activities list, use the Bar Type list to select Current.
  6. In the Bar Type list, select an activity bar type and modify its appearance individually with any of the following options:
    • In the Height list, specify a bar height. This option is not available for Start and Finish Milestones.
    • If Show Progress is enabled, you can select a progress color using the Progress Color picker. Optionally, you can select a pre-configured style from the Progress Style list.
    • In the Bar Color picker, select a bar color to apply a bar color. Optionally you can select a theme from the Theme list to apply a pre-configured color theme for all bars in the Gantt chart.
    • Select Show Critical to represent critical activities with a red bar instead of the colors selected for the Current bar.
  7. Make selections in the Color Bars Using Code Assignments section to override bar colors and progress using colors associated with activity codes.
    • Select Override Progress Colors, and then select an activity code from the list.
    • Select Override Bar Colors, and then select an activity code from the list.
    • Select Modify Code Settings to configure the code value colors in the corresponding Codes dictionary.

      Note: If an activity is not assigned to a code that has an overriding color, it will use the activity type's configuration settings.

  8. To configure labels for a bar, do the following:
    1. Select the bar, select Add , and then select Label.
    2. In the Label Field list, select a label for the bar.
    3. In the Color list, use the color selector to select a font color.
    4. In the Height list, select a font height.
    5. Click and drag the label to position it next to or inside the bar.
  9. Apply the view:

    In the Manage Views panel:

    1. Select Save.
    2. Select Save As. When selected, you can create a new Personal, Project, or Workspace view with a new name in the Save View as window.
    3. Select Apply. When selected, you are returned to the grid. The grid displays any changes you have made; however, those changes are not saved. To save changes select Save or Save As in the View list.
  10. Select Close.
