SCEF Terms and Definitions

3GPP
Third Generation Partnership Project. The standards body for wireless communications.
Diameter
Protocol that provides an Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) framework for applications such as network access or IP mobility. Diameter works in both local and roaming AAA situations. Diameter can also be used as a signaling protocol for mobility management which is typically associated with an IMS or wireless type of environment.
HA
High Availability. A system or component that operates on a continuous basis by utilizing redundant connectivity, thereby circumventing unplanned outages.
High Availability
See HA.
HSS
Home Subscriber Server.
IMSI
International Mobile Subscriber Identity. A unique internal network ID identifying a mobile subscriber.
IoT
Internet of Things. The IoT is an environment in which objects are provided with unique identifiers and have the ability to transfer data over a network.
IP
Internet Protocol. IP specifies the format of packets, also called IP datagrams, and the addressing scheme. The network layer for the TCP/IP protocol suite widely used on Ethernet networks, defined in STD 5, RFC 791. IP is a connectionless, best-effort packet switching protocol. It provides packet routing, fragmentation and re-assembly through the data link layer.
IWF
Interworking function.
MME
Mobility Management Entity.
MO
Mobile originated (traffic from SCEF to SCS/AS).
MO-NIDD
Mobile-originated Non-IP Data Delivery.
MSISDN
Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number. A number used to identify a mobile phone number internationally. MSISDN is defined by the E.164 numbering plan, which includes a country code and a National Destination Code which identifies the subscriber's operator.
MT
Mobile terminated (traffic from SCS/AS to SCEF).
MT-NIDD
Mobile-terminated Non-IP Data Delivery.
MTC

Machine Type Communication.

NB-IoT
NarrowBand IoT. A low-power, wide-area network radio technology standard using cellular telecommunication frequencies.
NIDD
Non-IP Data Delivery (that is, directly through an MME or SGSN).
OCSG
Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper. An API management and governance platform.
S6m, S6t
Diameter interfaces to HSS servers. The S6 reference point is specified in 3GPP TS 29.336.
SCEF
Service Capabilities Exposure Function.
SCEF-FE

SCEF Front End. A routing SCEF device.

SCS/AS
Services Capability Server/Application Server. A network function that provides open interfaces towards the functionality offered by 3GPP System service capabilities.
SGSN
Serving GPRS Support Node.
SMS
Short Message Service.
SMS-SC
Short Message Service—Service Center.
T6a, T6b
Diameter interfaces to MME servers. The T6 reference point is stateless, and is specified in 3GPP TS 29.128.
WebSocket
A protocol that provides full-duplex communications over a single TCP connection.
