Price Tag Overview and Setup

Price tags are labels that you can print and affix to items prior to distribution to your retail stores. The price tag can contain information such as the item number and SKU, price, UPC barcode, and item information such as long SKU department, long SKU class, and long SKU size.

Price tag type: You can use the Working with Price Tag Types (WPTY) menu option to define the types of price tags that you can assign to an item and the printer used to print the price tags. CWSerenade is delivered with 9 different price tag types; see Delivered Price Tag Types.

Assigning a price tag type to an item: Once you define the price tag types, you can use the Tag Type field on the Change or Create Item Screen to assign a price tag type to an item.

Creating a price tag batch: The system creates a price tag batch that contains the price tags to print for an item when you:

• generate picks for orders whose order type matches the order type defined in the Order Type to Print Price Tags during Pick Generation (M28) system control value.

• process an RF PO Receipt transaction for an item that is assigned to a price tag type.

• process a Store Transfer Receipt transaction for an item that is assigned to a price tag type.

• manually create a price tag batch in the Working with Price Tags (WPTG) menu option.

See Creating a Price Tag Batch for more information.

Printing price tags: The system prints price tags when you:

• process an RF PO Receipt transaction for an item that is assigned to a price tag type.

• process a Store Transfer Receipt transaction for an item that is assigned to a price tag type.

• select Print for a price tag batch on the Work with Price Tags Screen.

• select Print for an individual price tag on the Work with Price Tag Detail Screen.

See Printing Price Tags for more information.

Working with price tags: You can use the Working with Price Tags (WPTG) menu option to:

• create a price tag batch or add an item to an existing price tag batch.

• change the price tag type and the number of price tags to print for an item in a price tag batch.

• print the price tags for an item in a price tag batch or print all of the price tags in a price tag batch.

• delete an item from a price tag batch or delete the entire price tag batch.

Purging price tags: Price tags remain in CWSerenade until you:

• manually delete them in the Working with Price Tags (WPTG) menu option.

• use the PPT Purge Printed Price Tags (program name PFPPT) periodic function to purge price tag batches in the Price Tag Batch table that are in a P Printed status.

Creating a Price Tag Batch

The system creates a price tag batch, using the next available number in the Price Tag Batch # number assignment, when you:

• generate picks for orders whose order type matches the order type defined in the Order Type to Print Price Tags during Pick Generation (M28) system control value; see Creating a Price Tag Batch during Pick Slip Generation.

• process an RF PO Receipt transaction for an item that is assigned to a price tag type; see Creating a Price Tag Batch for an RF PO Receipt Transaction.

• process a Store Transfer Receipt transaction for an item that is assigned to a price tag type; see Creating a Price Tag Batch for an RF Store Transfer Receipt Transaction.

• select Create on the Work with Price Tags Screen; see Creating a Miscellaneous Price Tag Batch.

• select Create from Order on the Work with Price Tags Screen; see Creating a Price Tag Batch Based on Order.

Creating a Price Tag Batch during Pick Slip Generation

The system creates a price tag batch when you generate picks for orders whose order type matches the order type defined in the Order Type to Print Price Tags during Pick Generation (M28) system control value.

In this situation, the system:

• creates a new price tag batch in the Price Tag Batch table, using the next available number in the Price Tag Batch # number assignment. The system assigns the billing batch number associated with the pick slip generation run to the price tag batch. The Status of the price tag batch is O Open since the system does not immediately print price tags during pick slip generation for the price tag batch.

• creates a price tag detail for each item on the pick that is assigned to a price tag type. The system uses the pick quantity as the number of tags to print for each item.

The price tag batch displays on the Work with Price Tags Screen in an O Open status. You can use this menu option to:

• add an item to the price tag batch; see Create/Change Price Tag Detail Screen.

• update the number of tags for an item or change the price tag type to print for the item; see Create/Change Price Tag Detail Screen.

• print the price tags in the batch; see Printing All Price Tags in a Price Tag Batch and Printing an Individual Price Tag in a Price Tag Batch.

Note: If none of the items on the order are assigned to a price tag type, the system creates a price tag batch that does not contain any details.

For more information: See Working with Price Tags (WPTG) for more information on working with the price tag batch.

Creating a Price Tag Batch for an RF PO Receipt Transaction

The system creates a price tag batch when you process an RF PO Receipt transaction for each item on the PO that is assigned to a price tag type. A separate price tag batch is created for each separate RF PO Receipt session. For example, if you receive items on 2 different POs in the same RF PO Receipt session, the system creates one price tag batch that contains the items on both POs.

To create:

1.

On the RF PO Select Screen, enter the purchase order number you wish to receive.

Use the Price Tags Option field on this screen to indicate whether you wish to print price tags for the items on the PO that are assigned to a price tag type.

A = Print All Tags. This option allows you to print price tags for all of the items on the PO prior to receiving the PO. With this option, the system:

• creates a price tag batch in the Price Tag Batch table, using the next available number in the Price Tag Batch # number assignment.

• creates a Price Tag Detail for each item on the PO that is assigned to a price tag type. The system uses the Quantity ordered in the PO Detail table as the number of tags to create for each item.

• immediately prints the tags in the batch; see Printing Price Tags.

R = Print Received Tags. This option allows you to print price tags only for the items on the PO that are received in this transaction. With this option, the system:

• creates a price tag batch in the Price Tag Batch table, using the next available number in the Price Tag Batch # number assignment.

• creates a Price Tag Detail for each item received on the PO that is assigned to a price tag type. The system uses the receipt quantity as the number of tags to create for each item.

• immediately prints the tags in the batch; see Printing Price Tags.

• blank = The system does not create a price tag batch or print price tags.

2.

The price tag batch displays on the Work with Price Tags Screen in a P Printed status.

For more information: See RF PO Receipt Transaction.

Creating a Price Tag Batch for an RF Store Transfer Receipt Transaction

The system creates a price tag batch when you process an RF Store Transfer Receipt transaction for each item on the store transfer that is assigned to a price tag type. A separate price tag batch is created for each separate RF Store Transfer Receipt session. For example, if you receive items on 2 different store transfers in the same RF Store Transfer Receipt session, the system creates one price tag batch that contains the items on both store transfers.

To create:

1.

On the RF Transfer ID Select Screen, enter the store transfer ID you wish to receive.

Use the Price tags option field on this screen to indicate whether you wish to print price tags for the items on the store transfer that are assigned to a price tag type.

A = Print All Tags. This option allows you to print price tags for all of the items on the store transfer prior to receiving the store transfer. With this option, the system:

• creates a price tag batch in the Price Tag Batch table, using the next available number in the Price Tag Batch # number assignment.

• creates a Price Tag Detail for each item on the store transfer that is assigned to a price tag type. The system uses the Quantity due in the Store Transfer Receipts table as the number of tags to create for each item.

• immediately prints the tags in the batch; see Printing Price Tags.

R = Print Received Tags. This option allows you to print price tags only for the items on the store transfer that are received in this transaction. With this option, the system:

• creates a price tag batch in the Price Tag Batch table, using the next available number in the Price Tag Batch # number assignment.

• creates a Price Tag Detail for each item received on the store transfer that is assigned to a price tag type.

You can use this menu option to:

• add an item to the price tag batch; see Create/Change Price Tag Detail Screen.

Monarch Printer for Price Tags

A Monarch printer is required to print price tags.

The recommended Monarch printer to use is the Monarch1 9855 RFIDMP (Radio Frequency Identification Multi-Protocol) Printer. This printer has been engineered to program (encode) an RFID label (also called RFID tag) before the label’s format is printed. RFID tags contain an embedded RFID chip inlay (chip and antenna). You can also print text, graphics, and bar codes on thermal transfer (ribbon) and thermal direct labels or tags.

Contact your MICROS representative if you wish to use a different Monarch printer.

Visit the Avery Dennison2 Monarch Products and Services web site (www.monarch.averydennison.com) for more information about Monarch printers and to download documentation about your Monarch printer.

Monarch printer setup: The PRINTER_CONNECTION setting in the LabelPrinters Property file indicates how CWSerenade connects to the Monarch printer. This setting must be set to WIN, indicating the Monarch printer is set up as a Windows Print Service.

Price Tag Settings in LabelPrinters Properties File

The LabelPrinters Properties file stores information required to print price tags.

Where is the file located? This file is located in the same folder as the other CWSerenade properties files, where C: represents the root drive of the default drive:

C:\Serenade\server\conf\cwdirectcpproperties\cwdirectcp_labelprinters.properties

How to edit the file: MICROS recommends that you first make a backup copy of the configuration file. Then use a text editor, being careful not to change any of the settings except those indicated below.

Note: Your changes take effect the next time you select Change in Refresh System Properties (PROP) or stop and restart the SERENADE service (or the application server).

Settings in file related to price tags: The settings below are related to price tags; see LabelPrinters Properties File for more information on the settings in this file related to Radio Frequency.
