Installing the Oracle Client

Oracle has released separate installation media for installations on Windows 2008 / Vista. Attempts to install Oracle with earlier released installation media will fail. It is assumed that the correct media has been downloaded from the below links.

To install the Oracle client for 32 bit OS

  1. For 32 bit installations, select the following link:

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10203vista.html

  2. Download the following files from the Oracle Database Software Downloads page:
    • 10203_vista_w2k8_x86_production_db.zip
    • 10204_vista_w2k8_x86_production_crs.zip

Note: The database installation media is released on 10.2.0.3. However, for the configuration to be supported by Oracle, the following patch sets must first be installed:

    • p6810189_10204_Win32 (Patch 10.2.0.4)
    • p8392340_10204_Win32 (Patch Set 19 for 10.2.0.4)

To install the Oracle client for 64 bit OS

  1. For x64 bit installations, select the following link:

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10204_winx64_vista_win2k8.html

  2. Download the following files from the Oracle Database Software Downloads page:
    • 10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_db.zip
    • 10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_crs.zip
  3. The following patch sets should be applied:
    • p6810189_10204_MSWIN-x86-64 (Patch 10.2.0.4)
    • p8392341_10204_MSWIN-x86-64

Note: Once the Windows 2008 / Vista specific installation media has been used for the initial installation, regular patch sets can be applied (there are no Windows 2008 / Vista specific patch sets at this point.) This guide has been written while installing 10.2.0.4 PS19 on a 32 bit platform. You can install any later patch set for testing purposes.
