This document introduces Oracle Retail Xstore Office Cloud Service.

Overview

The Oracle Retail Xstore Suite has always offered a highly flexible deployment model that includes thick, thin, tablet, and handheld options at the store. With the latest release and the introduction of Xstore Office Cloud Service, Oracle has added a full Software as a Service (SaaS) offering to complement the current support for central functions available on premises or hosted in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) or Platform as a Service (PaaS).

Oracle Retail Xstore Office Cloud Service

Oracle Retail Xstore Office Cloud Service is a central web-based application used to administer corporate-based functions such as Oracle Retail Xstore Point-of-Service configuration setup and maintenance, file management for the Oracle Retail Xstore Suite, viewing the electronic journal, viewing store reports, monitoring Oracle Retail Xstore Point-of-Service versions in use at the store and register levels, and monitoring alerts.

Oracle Retail Xstore Office Cloud Service provides for the facile management of the data and configurations that empower your associates. The user interface within Oracle Retail Xstore Office Cloud Service provides streamlined functionality that guides users through configuration changes, data changes, and deployments. Granular security access can create a custom experience for users of all access levels. Multiple support tools and alerts enable IT leaders to take a proactive approach to managing multiple installations.

References to the on-premises application names exist throughout the Xstore Office Cloud Service applications and documents.

Features

All features in the on-premises Xstore Office Version 18.0, including new REST data lookup services, are also available in the Xstore Office Cloud Service, Version 18.0.

Xstore Office Enhancements for Cloud Only

The 18.0 version of Xstore Office includes the following enhancements:

Broadcaster REST Service

In addition to the push broadcasters, a new pull broadcaster is available. This new long poll/pull broadcaster allows third-party integrations to retrieve near real-time transaction data on their own schedule.

Broadcaster Manager

Broadcaster configuration is available in the Xadmin UI. Configurations made are effective without requiring an application restart.

Built in File Storage

A central file storage mechanism is used to serve deployment files and accept batch pospolls from the store. (This replaces the deployment server that is part of the on-premises configuration.) Files can be uploaded using a REST API for ”file drop” deployments. Files can be downloaded using a REST API or a browser.

Customization Management

A new Xadmin module is used to upload DTX files and overlay configuration files. These uploads are used to customize the Xcenter installation by adding database tables and adjusting the starting point for the Xadmin configurator modules. The customizations take effect without requiring manual database edits, software upgrades, or application restarts.

Value-Added Reseller (VAR) Language

Oracle Retail VAR Applications

The following restrictions and provisions only apply to the programs referred to in this section and licensed to you. You acknowledge that the programs may contain third party software (VAR applications) licensed to Oracle. Depending upon your product and its version number, the VAR applications may include:

(i) the MicroStrategy Components developed and licensed by MicroStrategy Services Corporation (MicroStrategy) of McLean, Virginia to Oracle and imbedded in the MicroStrategy for Oracle Retail Data Warehouse and MicroStrategy for Oracle Retail Planning & Optimization applications.

(ii) the Wavelink component developed and licensed by Wavelink Corporation (Wavelink) of Kirkland, Washington, to Oracle and imbedded in Oracle Retail Mobile Store Inventory Management.

(iii) the software component known as Access Via™ licensed by Access Via of Seattle, Washington, and imbedded in Oracle Retail Signs and Oracle Retail Labels and Tags.

(iv) the software component known as Adobe Flex™ licensed by Adobe Systems Incorporated of San Jose, California, and imbedded in Oracle Retail Promotion Planning & Optimization application.

You acknowledge and confirm that Oracle grants you use of only the object code of the VAR Applications. Oracle will not deliver source code to the VAR Applications to you. Notwithstanding any other term or condition of the agreement and this ordering document, you shall not cause or permit alteration of any VAR Applications. For purposes of this section, "alteration" refers to all alterations, translations, upgrades, enhancements, customizations or modifications of all or any portion of the VAR Applications including all reconfigurations, reassembly or reverse assembly, re-engineering or reverse engineering and recompilations or reverse compilations of the VAR Applications or any derivatives of the VAR Applications. You acknowledge that it shall be a breach of the agreement to utilize the relationship, and/or confidential information of the VAR Applications for purposes of competitive discovery.

The VAR Applications contain trade secrets of Oracle and Oracle's licensors and Customer shall not attempt, cause, or permit the alteration, decompilation, reverse engineering, disassembly or other reduction of the VAR Applications to a human perceivable form. Oracle reserves the right to replace, with functional equivalent software, any of the VAR Applications in future releases of the applicable program.
