To retrieve OLAP data, perform the following tasks:
Connect to the data stores that you require, if you have not yet established connections.
Define a query that specifies the data to be retrieved.
Specify the query as the data source for the object that is to use the data. For example, to display data in a crosstab, graph, or table, specify the query as the data source for the presentation, (which is also known as a Dataview
object).
To define a query, use any of the following approaches:
Use the JDeveloper Presentation wizard to create a new crosstab, graph, or table and its associated query. (The wizard displays QueryBuilder panels to let you define the query.)
Use the JDeveloper Query wizard to create an independent query that is not yet associated with a presentation bean. (The wizard displays QueryBuilder panels to let you define the query.)
In HTML-client applications, you can use the FavoriteTool bean and the SortTool bean to customize a query that is associated with a presentation. You can also use the HTML-client RotateTool bean to change the layout of the data in a presentation.
In Java-client applications, you can add the QueryBuilder into your application to allow users to create or modify a query at runtime.
In any application, you can write code to customize a query or to create a query dynamically at runtime.
