Use the Rules tab of the Formats dialog box to specify the circumstances under which a new format should apply in a table or crosstab. In the other tabs of the Formats dialog box, you specify how the cells should look. In this tab, you specify when they should look that way.
Conditions box -- Lists the possible conditions that must be met before the formatting will apply.
For header formats, the dimension that you selected in the Format Headers for box in the General tab of the Formats dialog box is checked and selected. You can choose Edit to change the dimension member or members to which you want the format to apply.
For data formats, you should check all of the conditions that must be met for the format to be applied, editing them as necessary. By default, the conditions that are met by the cells that are selected in the table or crosstab are checked.
You can specify that the format apply only for certain dimension members, such as London only, or June 2001 only. If you check both conditions, then the format will apply only when a cell represents data for London in June 2001.
You can also specify a data condition, such as Sales > 2000. The data condition is added to the other checked conditions. For example, if you checked Sales > 2000 in addition to the geography and time conditions, then the format would apply only when Sales values for London in June 2001 are greater than 2000.
Edit button -- Allows you to edit the selected condition. If the condition is a data condition (such as Sales > 2000), then this button displays the Edit Condition dialog box. For dimension conditions, this button displays the Select Members dialog box, where you can select the dimension members to which the format should apply.
Format elements box -- Specifies the formatting elements that have been set for this format, so that you can see what will be affected when the specified conditions are met. Formatting characteristics that you have changed in other tabs of this dialog box are checked in this list. You can uncheck them to undo the formatting that you set in the other tab.
