Welcome to Oracle® Business Intelligence Beans (hereinafter referred to as "BI Beans"). This topic contains information to help you configure and start using BI Beans. It is divided into two main sections: Before you begin and Learning about BI Beans.
If you have not already done so, you must install Oracle9i with the
OLAP option, install the appropriate database patches, and perform important
configuration steps. For detailed instructions, consult the Oracle Developer
Suite 10g Installation Guide, which also contains the matrix of supported
platforms for Oracle Developer Suite. The matrix of database patches is available
from the BI Beans product area on Oracle Technology Network (http://otn.oracle.com/products/bib/content.html
).
Oracle Corporation recommends that you also install the BI Beans Catalog.
You are now ready to start learning about and using JDeveloper with BI Beans.
The following resources will help you learn about the beans and begin to develop applications quickly.
Tutorials provide step-by-step instructions for building both Java-client and HTML-client applications. You can access the tutorials from the Help system or download them from Oracle Technology Network.
The topic Introducing Oracle Business Intelligence Beans provides a high-level view of the beans and how they work together. In addition, topics in the Help system provide conceptual information and explain how to use groups of methods to accomplish tasks. In JDeveloper, you can access Help topics about the user interface by pressing F1. You can also use the Help menu to display the entire Help system.
The API Reference provides information at the detail level for each class,
interface, and method. To access the API Reference, choose BI
Beans API Reference from the Help menu in JDeveloper. You can also
access the API Reference separately from JDeveloper. To do so, locate the
/doc
directory under your JDeveloper home directory, unzip
bibeans-doc.zip
, and open index.html
in your preferred
browser.
Samples provide code for common application tasks. In addition to demonstrating
how to code particular features, the samples provide code that you can cut
and paste directly into your application. You download samples from the
BI Beans product area on Oracle Technology Network (http://otn.oracle.com/products/bib/content.html
),
which is updated frequently with new samples. For a preview, read the samples
overview topic.
