group

In a graph, a subset of the displayed data, generally markers that are connected to each other or are aligned with each other. For example, in a stacked bar graph, a stack of bars is a group. In a multiple pie graph, each pie is a group. In line graphs, data points that are aligned vertically are in the same group.

In vertical bar graphs, line graphs, and area graphs, group labels appear along the horizontal axis. A group usually represents all the data for a dimension member, such as January or February.

In scatter, bubble, and polar graphs, markers in the same group are not aligned, so groups are harder to identify. However, the groupings are not as significant in those graph types. In stock graphs that show volume, a stock marker and its corresponding volume marker represent a group.
