A BI Designer
object is the container for the business intelligence objects (BI Beans objects) that are created in the JDeveloper environment. This container is used only during design (not at runtime).
In JDeveloper, a BI Beans project must include at least one BI Designer
object. The BI Designer
enables you to design BI Beans objects visually, create queries, view data, and save objects in XML.
Each BI Designer
object has its own root definitions folder (called
the local Catalog) and identifies the OLAP data source for the objects that
the BI Designer will contain.
When you create a BI Designer
object, a BI Beans configuration file is created automatically. This file contains application settings for runtime.
Selections from the right-mouse menu of the BI Designer
object let you perform the following development tasks:
Create new business intelligence objects to be stored in the BI Designer
. This action includes the creation of crosstabs, tables, graphs, queries, or calculations.
Copy objects to a remote BI Beans Catalog. This action lets you save objects from the local catalog in a JDeveloper project to a production catalog.
Copy objects from a remote BI Beans Catalog. This action lets you load objects from a BI Beans Catalog to a local catalog in a JDeveloper project.
Browse a remote BI Beans Catalog. This action lets you browse a catalog and perform folder and file maintenance as needed.
Display the BI Beans Settings dialog box. This action lets you edit design settings for the BI Designer
and run settings for the BI Beans configuration file.
