Copying Objects from a Remote Catalog

During design in JDeveloper, you can copy (that is, load) existing objects from a remote BI Beans Catalog to the local Catalog of a BI Designer in a project. This capability allows you to create an object once and then use it in multiple applications. You might also want to use this capability to enhance an existing object or to create a new object that is similar to an existing object.

Folder structure is preserved during the copy operation

When the wizard copies your selected folders and objects to a local Catalog in your project, it preserves the hierarchical folder structure that exists in the remote Catalog. This preserved structure is helpful later if you update the objects and copy the revised objects back to the remote Catalog.

Procedure: Copying objects from a remote Catalog to a local Catalog

To copy objects from a remote Catalog to the local Catalog:

  1. In the System Navigator, right-click the BI Designer object that references the desired Catalog.

  2. From the popup menu, select Copy Objects from Remote Catalog to invoke the appropriate wizard.

  3. Complete the steps of the wizard and choose Finish. When the wizard completes the copy operation, it displays a summary of the objects that were copied.
