Assigning Predecessor Relationships

You can assign predecessor relationships to the activities in a project.

To assign a predecessor relationship:

Click Projects.
On the Projects navigation bar, click Activities.
1. On the Activities page, select an activity to which you want to assign predecessors and click the Relationships detail window.
2. In the Relationships detail window, in the Predecessors area, click Add.
3. In the Select Predecessor Activity dialog box, select one or more activities and click OK.
4. On the Activities page, click Save.

Tips

You can also assign predecessor relationships in the Relationships detail window.
You can also change an existing relationship in the Predecessors detail window. To choose a different predecessor, select the Activity ID field in an existing relationship and choose a different activity from an open project. The Relationship type and lag will be maintained if you select a new predecessor.
You can assign relationships to multiple activities at one time. Select multiple activities using Ctrl+click or Shift+click. Right-click the selected activities and select Link Selected Activities. Based on their sequence in the view, the application creates Finish to Start relationships between selected activities. That is, a Finish to Start relationship is applied between the first and second activities, between the second and third activities, and so on. If an activity pair already has a Finish to Start relationship, the application tries, in turn, to apply each of the other relationship types, if possible. Otherwise, no relationship is applied to the pair.
When selecting a predecessor or successor activity, you can choose from activities in the open projects only.
