- Choose Enterprise, Resources.
- If necessary, click the Display options bar, then choose Filter By, All Resources, to display the resource hierarchy.
If resource security is enabled, you can only view resources you have access to. Therefore, you can add a new resource only to the hierarchy you have access to. - Select the resource to which you want to add a new child resource.
You can use the arrow icons on the Move toolbar to position the new resource after you add it. You can also display the resource hierarchy as a list rather than a hierarchy; when you display a resource list, the new resource is added at the root level of the hierarchy. To switch between list and hierarchy views in the Resources window, click the column label furthest to the left in the Resources window. - Click on the Edit toolbar or choose Edit, Add.
Depending on your user preferences, the New Resource wizard may start. Follow the prompts on each dialog box to create the resource. - Click each tab in Resource Details and enter the resource's information.
Tips
- If resource security is enabled you can add a resource only under your root node. Under your root node, you can select any resource node and click the Add button. The new resource is added as a child to the selected node.
- You can indent or outdent any resources you have access to, except your root node. Since your root node is the highest level of resource you have access to, you cannot outdent any other resources to the same level. By changing the position of a resource in the resource hierarchy, you change the resource's accessibility for all users that are assigned to that resource.
- You can enter the default units/time as a numeric valued followed by a forward slash (/) and the appropriate time duration, depending on your user preference setting for time units, or as a percentage for labor and nonlabor units.
- You can use limits to delay the start of a resource in the project schedule until the resource is available. For example, if a resource is hired in August but does not start until September, you can add their activities and assignments to the project and then set the resource limits as follows:
Effective Date | Max Units/Time |
---|---|
10AUG01 | 0h/h |
10SEP01 | 1h/h |
Note
- If you intend to use Oracle Analytics Publisher (formerly BI Publisher), avoid using commas when creating data other than Project names. The way that data other than Project names is passed to BI Publisher can cause a comma to be interpreted as a delimiter between data items.
- When connected to a P6 Professional database: The email address and office phone number you type in the Resources window General tab overwrites the email address and office phone number recorded in the Users dialog box, if that information is different. Likewise, email and phone information you enter for a resource in the Users dialog box overwrites the information in the Resources window.
- When connected to a P6 EPPM database: The email address and office phone number you type in the Resources window General tab overwrites the email address and office phone number recorded using P6, if that information is different. Likewise, email and phone information you enter for a resource in P6 overwrites the information in the Resources window.
