Effective Date and Display Periods in Generic Cost Manager

The Display Periods in Generic Cost Manager (CM0) Sheet is based on the rolled-up data from the line items.

Unifier uses the Effective Date value to render data according to the Display Period. When you look at the data in the CM0 sheet, the values of the date fields and the Display Periods are all calculated based on your timezone (the user’s timezone which is set in the User Preferences). The Effective Date is stored in the Server Time Zone. When Unifier does the conversion for the time stamps, the conversion may result in the line item information to fall on the previous day. This is specifically true when a project has time zones that differ from the Server Time Zone, and the Effective Date falls close to a change in month, quarter, or year.

Example

If the Effective Date (which is a Date Picker) is set as a formula to get the value from the Budget Month (which is also a Date Only Picker), then the time stamp for the Effective Date (while storing in the database) will be as per the Server Time Zone. Unifier uses the time stamp to calculate the month. Subsequently, Unifier uses the time stamp to evaluate the Display Periods (for example monthly) associated with the line item. As a result, if the Budget Month is selected as April 1, then you will see the Effective Date of April 1, based on your time zone (user’s time zone). In this scenario, when the roll up of data happens to CM0, the line item will have the Effective Date set as March 31 based on the Server Time Zone. This difference is caused by the time difference calculation performed by Unifier.
