Planned Dates

The planned dates are useful for comparing current and planned progress for an activity if you are not using baselines. Planned units and costs are spread according to the planned dates for the activity or assignment.

While an activity is not started, the planned start and finish dates for an activity are the same as the early start and finish dates and are recalculated whenever you reschedule the project. When you apply an actual start to an activity, the planned start and finish dates are fixed and no longer recalculated.

You can set the planned start date manually, however the date you set will be overwritten for all not started activities when you next schedule the project. After an activity is started the planned dates are not recalculated by the scheduler, even if you have changed the dates manually.

By default changing the the planned finish date for an activity which has not started updates the planned duration and remaining duration for the activity. As a result of the planned duration and remaining duration being changed, any other fields which use those dates in their calculations will also be changed. If the Link planned and at completion for not started activities option is cleared in the project preferences, changing the planned finish date only updates the planned duration and the remaining duration is not changed.
