PeopleSoft Search Technology Overview

Important! The Search Technology Online Help is updated with OpenSearch content applicable to PeopleSoft Search Framework in PeopleTools 8.60.07 patch. For information on Elasticsearch implementation in PeopleSoft Search Framework prior to PeopleTools 8.60.07, see Search Technology(PDF version).

The PeopleSoft Search Framework provides a standard, declarative method for creating, deploying, and maintaining search indexes for all of your PeopleSoft applications. Beginning with PeopleTools 8.60.07, PeopleSoft Search Framework provides support for using OpenSearch as the search engine. OpenSearch is an open-source software suite based on Apache Luceneā„¢. PeopleSoft Insights is PeopleSoft's brand for visualizations and analytics driven by search framework. Currently, PeopleSoft Insights uses OpenSearch Dashboards for visualizations and analytics. PeopleTools is integrated with OpenSearch version 2.3.0, OpenSearch Dashboards version 2.3.0, and Logstash version 8.6.0.

Important! In PeopleTools 8.60.07, PeopleSoft Search Framework supports two search engines-OpenSearch and Elasticsearch. However, at any point in time, search is performed on only one search engine, either OpenSearch or Elasticsearch. Both search engines can coexist in a PeopleSoft implementation for the purpose of live cut-over and performance benchmarking.

The OpenSearch search engine complements the PeopleSoft Search Framework search functionality with the following advantages:

  • Seamless deployment using OpenSearch DPK and ACM plug-ins.

  • Ability to deploy highly available indexes, with fail over that is scalable.

  • Excellent crawl and search performance.

  • Efficient resource utilization on the search engine host making high volume crawling and searching practical.

  • Excellent data recovery management.

  • Efficient data collection engine and analytic and visualization platform.
