Understanding Inventory Status
The inventory status pages enable you to define and modify status information for the stock in the business unit. You can assign inventory statuses and identify material that is unsuitable for commercial or internal use. The available statuses are Open, Restricted, Hold, and Rejected. These statuses, combined with the Incl Non Open in Avail (include non-open in available) option on the Inventory Definition - Business Unit Options page, affect how stock is handled during inventory transactions and which stock is considered part of the available quantity in a business unit.
There are three important factors to note:
You cannot put an item into a storage location if the identical item (including identical staged date, lot ID, serial ID, container ID, and unit of measure attributes) already exists in the storage location with a status of Hold or Rejected.
However, if the item is lot-controlled and the lot status is any status other than Open, the item is put away with the same status as the lot. Similarly, if the storage location is on hold and the item is not lot-controlled or is lot-controlled with an open lot, the item is put away with a Hold status.
The system does not include items with a status of Restricted, Hold, or Rejected on picking plans.
You can override the picking instructions and pick items with a Restricted status on the Material Picking Feedback page, but you cannot pick items with a status of Hold or Rejected.
You cannot make quantity adjustments for items with a status of Hold, unless the items reside in inspection locations.

These statements summarize how the inventory status is derived:
If the item is lot-controlled and the item's lot is not Open, all inventory for the lot inherits the lot status.
If the item is not lot-controlled or the item's lot is Open and the storage location is on hold, all inventory within the location inherits the location status of Hold.
If the item is not lot-controlled or the item's lot is Open and the location is not on hold, you can assign any of the four statuses to particular inventory. If the item's lot is not Open or the storage location is on hold, you cannot override the status at the inventory-item level.
