Understanding PeopleSoft Insights Using PeopleSoft Search Framework

This topic provides an overview about PeopleSoft Insights.

PeopleSoft Insights is an analytical engine that provides visual reports (visualizations) in the form of charts, tables, graphs and so on. The visualizations are based on queries that retrieve data from the PeopleSoft Search Framework.

Dashboard administrators use PeopleSoft Insights and the underlying analytics engine to create both dashboards and visualizations. Dashboards objects, which contain one or more visualizations, are imported into PeopleSoft.

Typically, a PeopleSoft user who has the Search Administrator role performs these tasks:

  • Imports dashboards.

  • Configures dashboards as tiles or related information.

  • Specifies user privileges for the dashboard.

    End users access dashboards based on user privileges.

  • Deploys dashboards.

Important! Oracle recommends that you do not modify or edit a delivered dashboard or visualization. You may copy a delivered visualization and then modify it as per your business requirements.

PeopleSoft CRM provides administrators and managers direct access to a collection of CRM Insights dashboards.

Administrators and managers use the Insights Catalog tile to access the Insights Catalog navigation collection for CRM.

Note: You must be assigned the EOIC Insights Catalog role to access the Insights Catalog tile.

This navigation collection enables administrators to access CRM Insights from one location. The left panel of this page lists the Insight dashboards (catalog items) collected under the following categories:

  • Backlog

  • Performance

  • Solution Management

The right panel displays the Insights dashboard selected in the left panel.

This topic discusses Insights tiles and navigation collection, search definitions, and system-delivered roles.

Tiles and Navigation Collection

When an Insights tile is selected, it opens an Insights dashboard.

Insights Catalog is a navigation collection used to display all the Insights dashboards delivered in HCM. Each catalog item in the Insights Catalog is an Insights dashboard.

Search Definitions

PeopleSoft Insights display analytics built from Search Indexes built through Search Framework. The data source for PeopleSoft Insights is search definition(s).

PeopleSoft search definitions are delivered for HR Helpdesk insights catalog items (navigation collection), dashboards, global search, and component keyword search. Use the appropriate search definition to build your indexes. Keep in mind that search definitions must be deployed before you can build the index.

System-Delivered Roles

User roles are required to access the PeopleSoft Insights dashboards. Refer to the table below to see roles associated to each search definition.

Note: Depending on how you access the dashboard (either from the Insights Catalog or a tile), different roles may be required.

Use the Deploy Insights Dashboards page to deploy Insights dashboards and tiles. For more information about the Deploy Insights Dashboards page, see PeopleTools Search Technology: “Working with Insights Dashboards for PeopleSoft Application Data”, Managing a Delivered Dashboard.

Note: Before you deploy a dashboard, you must ensure that the prerequisites of installing and setting up PeopleTools, OpenSearch, and Insights are completed. You must also ensure that the required search definitions are deployed and indexed successfully because component searches are visualizations in Insights are based on the indexes in the Search Framework.

Users can look up PeopleSoft Insights dashboards or visualizations by title, description, and panel label using the Insights search category of the Global Search bar.

As you enter search keywords, Search Framework displays the title and description of matching dashboard suggestions in the drop-down list that appears as well as on the Search Results page (when you select the Search button).
