Understanding Fluid ePerformance

Fluid ePerformance modernizes PeopleSoft ePerformance, providing a refreshing and intuitive user experience for conducting performance reviews.

PeopleSoft ePerformance is a performance management application for employees. It supports the setting and tracking of goals, regular check-ins between the manager and the employee for ongoing feedback, requests for feedback from other reviewers in the organization, communications and sharing of feedback between the manager and the employee in the final evaluation, and approval of evaluation documents.

In Fluid ePerformance, the components and pages for accessing and updating evaluation documents are redesigned to better support the performance review process. The updated look and feel, placement of information and user actions where they are needed, and reduced user clicks have made reviews simpler and easier for all users.

In addition to supporting the existing functionality (see ePerformance Overview for more information) delivered in the ePerformance application for accessing, creating, and managing evaluations, Fluid ePerformance also provides:

  • A modern user interface to enhance the user experience in conducting performance reviews. The new design includes:

    • A redesigned document layout that is optimized for any device.

    • The More Actions menu in multiple locations of the document to provide relevant user actions where they are needed.

    • Use of stars to provide ratings.

    • Ability to assign the order in which rating values appear in drop-down rating display.

  • Ability to add notes and feedback to items quickly and directly from the document’s details page.

  • Ability for both the manager and employee to submit participant requests.

  • Ability for both the manager and employee to view participant feedback when it is available.

  • Ability to rate sections, items and sub-items in the Track Progress step of the review process.

  • Ability to make ratings and comments required in sections and items in the Evaluation step, and specify the minimum character count when comments are required.

  • Rich text editor support for comments.

  • Attachment support throughout the review process.

  • Display of the approval monitor in the document when it is in the approval process.

We use these terms in the ePerformance product documentation as needed to refer to the supported versions, Fluid ePerformance and Classic ePerformance.

Note: Both versions support the same performance management processes and functionality in general, for that we use the same document content. Any differences in behavior between these versions will be identified using these terms wherever appropriate.

Fluid ePerformance uses the same installation and setup pages (for example, section and template definitions) as Classic ePerformance. New, fluid-only options are also added on these pages for Fluid ePerformance. For options that apply only to one version but not both, they will be stated properly in corresponding topics.

For more information about ePerformance setup, refer to topics in the Setting Up ePerformance and Setting Up Document Templates chapters of PeopleSoft HCM: ePerformance.

The system delivers lists of actions for the More Actions menu used in different locations of a document on the Fluid Popup Menu Setup Page. For more information about the More Actions menu, see Understanding the More Actions menu.

ePerformance supports the insertion of business objectives as items in performance documents and the alignment of performance document items to business objectives. Refer to the Setting Up Business Objectives To Work With Performance Documents topic for more information about the steps and key points recommended for the setup.

The system delivers these roles for the Fluid ePerformance functionality:

  • (Administrator) ePerformance HR Admin Fluid (Administer ePerformance Fluid)

  • (Manager) Fluid Dashboard - MSS ePerf (Manager ePerformance Dashboard)

This role provides access to the Team Performance Dashboard after selecting the Team Performance tile.

  • (Employee) Fluid Dashboard - ESS ePerf (Empl ePerformance Dashboard)

This role provides access to the Performance Dashboard after selecting the Performance tile.

Important! (Manager and employee) In Fluid ePerformance, users without any fluid dashboard role continue to access their document lists using respective navigation collections. They work with performance documents using Fluid pages the same way as the users who have the fluid dashboard roles.

Users still need ePerformance Manager Fluid and ePerformance Employee Fluid roles to take advantage of the Fluid ePerformance functionality.

Oracle delivers these permission lists for Fluid ePerformance:

  • HCCPSS1360 (ePerformance Employee Fluid)

  • HCCPSS2160 (ePerformance Manager Fluid)

  • HCCPEP2260 (ePerformance - HR Admin Fluid)

Here are a few points to keep in mind as you plan to uptake Fluid ePerformance:

  • Consider switching over to Fluid ePerformance after the conclusion of a review period rather than in the middle of the review cycle if possible.

  • To avoid unexpected system behavior, do not switch back to Classic ePerformance after Fluid ePerformance is applied.

  • To ensure that the system works properly when the manager or employee adds or submits participants for performance reviews, both users should be switched to using Fluid ePerformance.

  • Create new document templates to leverage the new options that are introduced in Fluid ePerformance.

Fluid ePerformance is discussed in these topics.
