Oracle’s PeopleSoft has two user interfaces:

  • PeopleSoft Classic User Interface, which was designed to be used on a laptop and desktop.

This interface was previously known as PIA (PeopleSoft Internet Architecture).

  • PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface, which was designed to be used on mobile devices, but can also be used on a laptop and desktop.

The PeopleSoft application reads the type of device you are using and renders the page accordingly. However, some pages are not designed for smart phones at this time.

PeopleTools documentation regarding the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface includes:

  • PeopleTools: Fluid User Interface Developer’s Guide.

  • PeopleTools: Applications User's Guide, Working With PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface.

The fluid banner is displayed on every fluid page and contains many of the same controls.

However, the controls displayed within the fluid banner can vary form component to component, depending on component settings, system settings, where you navigate from, and more. For additional information about the controls in the fluid banner, see PeopleTools: Applications User's Guide, Working with the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface, Working with Fluid Pages and Controls.

With the introduction of PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.55, Fluid navigation is the default navigation approach for PeopleSoft applications. Users can navigate to application pages from Fluid homepages. Additionally, application pages can be accessed using classic PeopleSoft navigation paths by selecting Navigator from the Fluid NavBar.

Companies using PeopleSoft applications might configure the delivered homepages and Fluid transactions differently since both are customizable, but the classic navigation remains a consistent way to navigate to all pages.

Since the Classic navigation paths remain relatively static, the PeopleSoft Online Help documentation provides only the classic navigation paths. This ensures that readers of PeopleSoft documentation can always navigate to a page even if their own Fluid homepages have been customized.

See Common Terms Used with the PeopleSoft Classic WorkCenter for a list of terms used in PeopleSoft Fluid WorkCenters. Not all apply to Fluid.
