2.30 vSTP Proxy Point Code Feature

When introducing vSTP to home network and replacing direct connect links to a foreign network, a method must be available for seamless migration. At present, if the home network migrates links from direct connect to the vSTP, the foreign network must change the APC from the original node to the vSTP self Point Code. In many cases, the foreign network is resistant to change, and this may impact the rollout of the vSTP.

For example, if a foreign network SS7 node is directly connected to an SS7 node in the home network, vSTP can be deployed so that the transition is transparent to the foreign node. The foreign node can still function as if it is connected to the original node in the home network. vSTP will provide routing connectivity in the home network to the foreign node and will allow the foreign node to connect to the home network.
