Using the Web Tools Properties Pane

Web Tools provides the Properties Pane that allows developers to see at a glance, the properties for the object selected in the Object List Explorer.

To Use the Properties Pane in Web Tools

  1. Select an object type in the Object List Explorer.

  2. Select the record for the object you wish to examine such as a specific Applet.

  3. Click the icon in the Object Explorer Toolbar that looks like two columns of text.

This opens the Properties Pane and displays the properties for the selected row.

  4. You can close the Properties Pane by clicking the “X” icon.

  5. You can hide the Properties Pane by clicking the two left arrows “<<”.

This hides the entire sidebar including the Object List Explorer and the Properties Pane.

To unhide or re-open the sidebar click the double right arrows “>>”.

  6. If you update a value in the Properties Pane, the change will be reflected in the selected record owning the property.

Simple controls such as Checkboxes, Pick Applets, Pick Lists, when modified, will immediately show the change in the selected record in the List Applet for the record. Text Fields require that you step off the field or explicitly save the record to show the change in the List Applet. Similarly, you can update a property in the List Applet to update the Properties Pane for that property.

  7. If a column is hidden in the List Applet for the selected record, that property will not be visible in the Properties Pane. If you do not see a particular property, check to see that it has been made visible in the “Columns Displayed” Applet Menu Item for the List Applet.

  8. By default, when you select a parent entity such as a Business Component, the Business Component record has the focus, and its properties are displayed. Even though you may also be looking at the Fields for a Business Component, and the row is highlighted for a Field, that Field has not been explicitly selected. You must explicitly select a child record to show its Properties in the Properties Pane.
